Biography
Sarthak is enrolled in the Bachelors of Health Science, with a major in Health and Society. He chose this program due to his personal interest and passion in global health and access and availability to healthcare in the developing world. He would like to become a cardiothoracic surgeon, who specializes in developing surgical solutions for those in impoverished or underdeveloped situations. Alongside from this, He would like to do some work in health policy, working alongside the government.
Sarthak graduated from Westmount Charter School in Calgary, AB. During his high school years, his top three achievements were: co-founding a non-profit organization called UNIFY that bridged the disconnect between refugee and resident high school students through various social programs, acting as student council president where he developed new events such as multicultural day, Diwali celebrations, and a Youth Forum, while simultaneously promoting anti-bullying and mental health campaigns, and interning at the Stanford Cardiothoracic Institute, assisting and completing Coronary Artery Bypass Grafts and Aortic Valve Replacements.
The choice to come to the University of Calgary for Sarthak was influenced by its proximity to home, the phenomenal resources available on campus, and the bustling diverse communities that flourish together on campus. He also appreciates that the City of Calgary offers tremendous amenities and is a beautiful yet tranquil place to be.
The Leader in Health Sciences award will present Sarthak with the opportunity to explore and entertain various avenues of health policy and global health. It will also provide him with a community of like-minded individuals who are pushing for change.
