Biography

Macdonagh is enrolled in the engineering degree program. He chose this program because he enjoys solving problems and mathematics. Becoming an engineer has been a dream that Macdonagh has been pursuing for a long time. He would like to work as an engineer with NGOs internationally at the start of his career, and then eventually return home to Canada and invest his time into finding solutions for environmental problems as well as overpopulation.

Macdonagh graduated from The Fernie Academy in Fernie, BC. His top three achievements during his high school years were being chosen as valedictorian of his class, being head boy at The Fernie Academy in grades 11 and 12, and coaching swimming for all athletes including masters and Special Olympics.

Looking for the best opportunity to achieve his goals of being an engineer, Macdonagh chose to attend the Schulich School of Engineering. The year-long internships and the variety of clubs will definitely enrich the learning experience, and help Macdonagh apply what he is learning. In addition, he chose the University of Calgary because he was familiar with the campus from his participation in sports competitions and through meeting engineering alumni from Calgary that have seemed like nice people.

The Prestige Award will allow Macdonagh to spend time studying and honing his skills in clubs instead of looking for part-time work. It will also grant him many positive networking opportunities at the university. Macdonagh is very thankful to the University of Calgary for providing him with this opportunity.
