Duaa F.

Chancellor's Scholarship

Awards and Scholarships

Duaa is enrolled in Science, with a major in Biological Sciences. Her goal is to continue to medical school to become a doctor. Duaa’s pursuit is primarily driven by her desire to increase people’s knowledge on health and medicine, by demystifying myths that may surround the health sciences field. As a science major she wants to increase the profile of young women in STEM by joining the science mentorship program offered through the faculty and transfer those learnings to the immigrant population group that she works closely with at the Calgary Immigrant Women’s Association.

Duaa graduated from Ernest Manning High School in Calgary, AB. During her years in high school, her top three achievements were: working as a mentor guiding and supporting women at the Calgary Immigrant Women’s Association, introducing volunteering opportunities to students through partnering with Youth Central, and participating in the News and Broadcasting team at her high school, creating pieces for the public through a variety of journalistic media and making students aware of dual credit opportunities.

Duaa chose to attend the University of Calgary because of the immense research opportunities that are available. By remaining in Calgary she maintains her strong sense of support through friends and family, and is able to continue to expand her volunteer work, along with joining and experiencing new clubs and activities at the university.

The prestige award will grant Duaa with the opportunity to focus on academia and extracurricular activities without the burden of financial stress. This award has motivated Dua to work even harder in her studies to accomplish her academic goals and pay her gratitude forward. She is thankful for being honored with such a prestigious award.
