Catherine B. L.

Seymour Schulich Community Service/Entrepreneurial Entrance Award

Awards and Scholarships

Catherine is in the engineering program, hopefully pursuing a degree in biomedical engineering. She has always been a curious individual wanting to see how everything works, and engineering is the foundation to continue creatively solving problems. She wants to research and create new technologies that allow for a higher quality of life for all individuals, including those less fortunate. She wishes to then apply herself to all future jobs and become the best engineer she can be.

Catherine graduated from Bishop Carroll High School. During her high school years, her top three achievements were starting her school's very own Wellness Club that advocated and aided the overall wellbeing of the student body which included arranging their very first Wellness Summit while also growing the club throughout high school from 2 members to over 25 members, being chosen for class salutatorian from administration and teachers based on achievement in both academic merit and social contributions, and volunteering over 200 hours with different organizations outside of school throughout high school.

She chose the University of Calgary because of the amazing research it has continuously going on, this being a topic that interests her, it allows for her to become involved and find a project she is passionate about. Apart from that, the quality of education is excellent, ensuring she gets the best possible undergraduate degree.

This award will impact her at UCalgary by giving her the ability to focus on her studies and extracurriculars - instead of on the finances. It also allows her to invest and further her career in areas that she is interested in.
