Kiana U

Biography

Kiana graduated from Bowness High School in Calgary, AB. While there, became the founder and president of the Bowness High School Tutoring Club, aiming to provide free tutoring services to students by students who excelled in the subject, particularly for students who could not afford tutoring. She was also a member of the Student Union, planning many school and community events, including one to give Christmas presents to underprivileged youth. Additionally, she graduated with Honours with distinction and as an AP Scholar with distinction.

Kiana chose to study at UCalgary because she grew up in Calgary and already had a familiarity with the campus. She also learned that UCalgary offered excellent research opportunities which she hopes to participate in one day so she can make an impact.

Kiana is enrolled in the Bachelor of Science program majoring in physics because she believes it is the best way to achieve her goal of having a positive impact on the world. Kiana wants to use the answers that physics provides to solve societal issues.

In the future, Kiana hopes to be involved in some form of research and is considering nuclear energy innovations. She wants her research to have real-world impacts and to improve people’s lives.

For Kiana, the Prestige Award has shown her that her hard work throughout high school was recognized, and the idea of winning the award was not as far-fetched as she thought. It will motivate her to continue working hard during university and to keep striving for more.

Kiana has an interest in nuclear energy, the processes we currently use, and how those processes can be innovated. Kiana has a fascination with atomic physics and is very excited to learn about the intricacies of the atom and how that can be utilized.

Kiana would like to thank UCalgary and the Schulich Foundation for this incredible opportunity, and she would like to encourage others to dream big and work hard for what they want.
