Tanjim H.

University of Calgary International Entrance Scholarship

Awards and Scholarships

Tanjim graduated from Mastermind English Medium School in Dhaka, Bangladesh. While there, he won the bronze medal at the World Economics Cup in China in 2021 and placed 5th in the National Economics Olympiad. He was also a national finalist at the Bangladesh Physics Olympiad and was a Gold Award Winner at the Queen’s Commonwealth Essay Competition.

Tanjim chose UCalgary for his undergraduate studies because he looks forward to exploring his options in a way that fosters innovation, encompasses research, and provides a homely environment. As an engineering student with concerns for the global economy, he plans to research the intersection between the two fields, and he feels UCalgary’s research ecosystem is tailor-made for him.

Tanjim is enrolled in the Bachelor of Science in Engineering and is planning on majoring in Software Engineering. He has memories of playing with algorithms and colors of the Rubik’s Cube as a kid leading to incorporating algorithmic thinking in programming. His journey to become a STEM enthusiast was curated by the art of software development.

In the future, Tanjim wants to work with artificial intelligence to develop predictive economic methods for global recessions and better mechanize development economics in developing countries.

Tanjim feels that the Prestige Award is what provides fuel for his ideas, work, and implementations, both symbolically and practically, while simultaneously keeping him relatively stress-free in his university life.

Tanjim says that his high school life was a complex hybrid of many fields. From being the president of the school debate club to working for the national newspaper The Daily Star, to working on projects for competitions like the Google Science Fair, to tutoring his juniors, to working with his voluntary initiative, his extracurricular life nurtured his just as much as his academics.
