Biography
Maya graduated from Westmount Charter School in Calgary, AB. While there she realized her passion for performing arts by writing and directing a play, performing in school and community theatre, playing oboe in the school band for 8 years, and passing her 7th Grade RCM voice exam. She also graduated with honours from John Paul II Polish School, where she received awards for academic achievement and community involvement. Additionally, she applied her leadership skills through the SHAD program, where she worked with students across Canada to design sustainable solutions for freshwater management.
Maya chose to study at UCalgary for her undergraduate studies because the university has always been a positive influence in her life. She attended science summer camps at a young age, participated in Outdoor Education activities through the UCalgary Outdoor Centre, and performed in concerts at the Rosza Theatre. Ultimately, she was drawn to the prestigious reputation of the Haskyane School of Business.
Maya is enrolled in the Bachelor of Commerce – Accounting program. She chose this program because of Haskayne’s focus on leadership and innovation, the collaborative nature of business, and the hope that her degree will help her make a lasting impact on the world.
In the future, Maya plans to work toward a CPA designation. She believes that this path will open many doors for her, whether she decides to work in public accounting, the corporate sector, or eventually start her own business.
Maya’s research interests are in the growing recognition and research into ESG (Environmental, Social, Governance) practices in business, as well as the importance of EDI (Equity, Diversity, Inclusion). She hopes to use her education to make a positive impact on the world, and this type of research would allow her to achieve that.
