Health and wellness services at UCalgary

Your health is important, and we’re here to make sure you get the care you need. Our on-campus clinic can provide you with medical care and education on a variety of health concerns.

Student flu shots: Starting Oct. 19, flu shots will be available through pharmacies or family physicians. For students on our main campus looking for a pharmacy nearby, some of the many options include Varsity Pharmacy in MacEwan Student Centre, Save-On-Foods in University District, and London Drugs in Brentwood Village Shopping Centre.

Out of province or international students: Pharmacies using publically funded vaccine will not provide flu shots to people who do not have AB Provincial Health care, as it is a fee for service for them and they cannot bill for out of province/country people. Some pharmacies have purchased their own vaccine and may charge a fee. Due to the gap in influenza vaccine provision for out of province/country students, Student Wellness Services will provide flu shots to students who are in this category by appointment only. If these students wish to get a flu shot they can call Student Wellness Services (403.210.9355) and book in with a nurse for a flu vaccine.

NOTE: To help prevent the spread of COVID-19, Student Wellness Services is currently not offering traditional walk-in services. If you are a student, call 403-210-9355 to make an appointment. The nurse will triage your concern and book a time for either an in-person or virtual visit.

Urgent Care Centres also remain open to address urgent health issues.

Please note that walk-in clinic services are currently suspended.

The UCalgary community can access our walk-in clinic for urgent or unexpected illnesses or concerns.

The walk-in clinic is open Monday – Friday from 9 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. Walk-in services may close earlier depending on volume. Call us at 403-210-9355 for details.

For chronic concerns, your family doctor can provide the best standard of ongoing care.

  1. Is walk-in right for you?

Walk-in service is currently unavailable due to COVID-19. If you require an appointment please call 403-210-9355 and ask to speak to a nurse. Alternatively, urgent care centres are still available to the public.

Our walk-in clinic is for health concerns that need to be addressed urgently and cannot wait for an appointment.

To ensure that your time with the doctor is maximized and your wait times are kept at a minimum, please consider booking an appointment whenever possible.

Clients using walk-in clinic for non-acute issues may be asked to book an appointment and return later.

Please talk to our reception staff to find out more.

  2. Booked appointments

Booked appointments are for medical concerns that may require a longer appointment or do not need to be addressed urgently.

Booked appointments are available for University of Calgary students only.

See "Medical services for UCalgary students (and their dependents)" below for more information.

Please note that Alberta health care is required for virtual appointments. To register for Alberta health care, visit alberta.ca/ahcip-apply.aspx.

Have a concern that you’re unsure we can address? Have a look at the medical services we offer. If your concern isn’t listed, you can come in for a referral to a specialist.

After 4:30 Monday to Thursday, limited services are available, so call ahead to make sure the service you want is available.

Please note that these services are currently modified to phone consults, virtual appointments, or in-person if deemed necessary by our staff.
