Peer helper positions are filled in the fall semester, with a limited number of positions opening for the winter semester.

Peer Support and Outreach Team Peer Helper

Peer Support and Outreach Team volunteers provide empathetic, non-judgmental listening and peer support to students who are seeking connection or navigating personal or academic challenges. Volunteers use active listening, shared experience, and supportive communication to help peers manage stress and mental health concerns. Working in pairs from the Student Wellness Services space, volunteers offer drop-in support to students in both one-on-one and small-group settings. Peer Support is offered in the Health and Wellness Clinic. In addition to direct peer support, volunteers collaborate in groups to plan initiatives that promote the program and foster community. Volunteers report to and work closely with volunteer team leaders and staff.

Wellness Education Team Peer Helper

Wellness Education Team volunteers deliver Wellness Classroom Visits - brief, engaging 5-minute, peer-led presentations delivered at the start of classes upon instructor request. These sessions use pre-developed scripts and ready-made PowerPoint slides, ensuring consistency and making it easy for volunteers to deliver content that highlights key well-being themes, shares practical strategies, and connects students to campus supports. Presentations also normalize common experiences, encourage help-seeking, and reduce stigma. Developed collaboratively with Student Wellness Services and campus partners, topics include burnout, self-compassion, mindfulness, perfectionism, social connection, career confidence, and healthy study habits. Since launching in October 2021, the program has reached over 56,000 students with highly positive feedback. The team also supports health promotion by creating bulletin board content for the Health and Wellness Clinic to raise awareness of well-being and available services.
