Corporate Law Summer Institute
Gain exposure to the world's best legal and economic institutions
Successful Canadian companies are nearly always oriented towards large international markets. They depend on their lawyers to assist them in operating around the world, including entering into transactions with partners in other markets. Most successful Canadian firms eventually raise capital in the United Kingdom or the United States.
This programme has been created for students who are interested in international business transactions. Your professors and international legal experts will expose you to the key legal institutions in London, one of the world’s business capitals, as well as the relevant legal issues arising from these sorts of transactions.

August 26, London: Free day and pre-departure preparations
August 27, London - Calgary: Depart London for Calgary or independent travel

Costs
The estimated cost of the Corporate Law Summer Institute is $12,202. This includes tuition, airfare, field trips, local transportation, accommodations and meals.

Important information regarding deposit payments: Deposits are non-refundable. Deposits secure your space in the program and allows payment for logistical arrangements to be made in advance.

Funding
International Study Travel Grant: Students studying abroad may be eligible for the University of Calgary's International Study Travel Grant. For more information on eligibility, application details and deadlines please click here.
Student loans: If you qualify for student loans, your program should qualify. We are able to provide you with a letter confirming your participation in the program for funding purposes. Please email group.study@ucalgary.ca to request a letter.

Students will be staying at Goodenough College residences.
Goodenough College is a relatively modern Oxbridge-style residential college located in Bloomsbury close the London School of Economics and the British Museum. It caters exclusively to graduate students attending one of London’s universities. Each room has its own bed, closet, wash stand, and desk. The bathrooms are shared with other residents on the floor. The floors are gender-segregated. Dining is in a central dining hall and a buttery located in the basement of the residence. Classes will be held in a conference room in another building owned by the college across a garden square from the residences. The college is orientated around a central quadrangle and the only entrance involves passing by a porter’s lodge.

This program is open to all Juris Doctor students in the Faculty of Law at the University of Calgary. Students in this program will be given priority.
Students outside of the Faculty of Law should contact the program professors if they are interested in participating in this program.

Info sessions are scheduled for every Group Study Program. Attending an info session is not required to apply, but strongly recommended as it will give you an opportunity to meet the instructor and learn more about the travel experience.

Before applying to study abroad, you should ask your academic advisor how a Group Study Program might align with your degree.
After you are accepted, you should ask your academic advisor more specific questions about courses/credits. It’s also recommended to follow up with your advisor again once you return to Calgary.
