Our mission is to connect UCalgary researchers, academics, and leaders with global opportunities. This includes identifying international funding opportunities, building strategic partnerships, and fostering diplomatic relationships. As our university expands and adopts a more global perspective and goals, it's essential to integrate international engagement throughout the institution. We aim to collaborate with all of you. We champion researcher-led global engagement by offering tailored support for partnership development, brokering international connections, and linking UCalgary researchers with global peers. We actively seek international funding opportunities for our researchers, including Horizon Europe, build capacity for science diplomacy and global impact, and work closely with the Research Services Office to maximize success.

We drive institutional global partnerships by proactively scouting high-potential opportunities, evaluating new prospects, formalizing collaborations through MOUs, and supporting long-term stewardship. For faculty-led global partnerships, we offer hands-on coordination, strategic guidance, and partnership tools—from proposal writing and brokering to agreement execution and reporting—empowering faculty to go global with impact.

We lead institutional diplomatic engagement and protocol by managing key relationships with ambassadors and consular officials, coordinating official visits and high-level delegations with partner universities, industries and NGOs, and delivering everything from single meetings to full-day, curated “white glove” experiences. Our international mission planning supports ELT and Deans in executing strategic global visits, while faculty-led international engagement is empowered through protocol guidance, toolkits, and shared resources for seamless self-hosted interactions.

We are pleased to share the progress made in advancing UCalgary’s Global Engagement Plan (GEP), which concluded in 2025, during a milestone moment as the university celebrates its 60th anniversary. Over six decades, UCalgary has steadily expanded its global footprint—building international partnerships, advancing research collaborations, and strengthening its role as a globally connected institution.

The GEP builds on this legacy, marking an important step in deepening UCalgary’s impact in an increasingly interconnected world.
