A compilation of workshops focusing on issues related to equity, diversity and inclusion
OEDI delivers workshops on various diversity and inclusion topics to students, faculty, and staff. Literacy and education are crucial mechanisms used to ignite change and foster inclusion. The impact of training and education depends on community members' understanding and commitment to life-long learning, practicing mindfulness and taking responsibility for building an inclusive university.
New to EDIA? Start with our introductory workshops such as EDI Foundations and Principles or Introduction to Anti-Racism which are often prerequisites for later learning. Be sure to also review our EDI Glossary for common terms and definitions that will be used throughout the workshops.

Fostering an Inclusive Campus Climate
Campus climate affects students, faculty, and staff by shaping their sense of belonging and safety. This workshop will explore how perceptions, attitudes, and institutional culture influence inclusion on campus.
Conflict, belonging & intersectionality through an ability & disability studies
Conflict, belonging, and intersectionality are key to the well-being of disabled people. Ability judgments often cause conflicts and reduce belonging, especially in marginalized groups, affecting intersectional pedagogy.
Unconscious Bias
This workshop raises awareness of unconscious bias, its impact on decision-making, and its effects on underrepresented groups, aiming to improve equity and inclusion practices by understanding hidden preferences.
Intercultural Competence and Intercultural Communication
This workshop introduces intercultural competence, exploring culture's impact on communication, the role of intercultural communication in higher education, and the relationship between language, power, and culture.
Danger of Burnout and Anxiety: What are the social stressors?
This workshop identifies social stressors causing burnout and anxiety, especially in disabled and marginalized groups. It covers workplace, activist, and life burnout but doesn’t include personal coping strategies.
Understanding and Addressing Microaggressions
This workshop explores microaggressions, their categories, impacts, and strategies for effective responses, highlighting the harm and hostile environments they create.
Allies and Allyship; particular focus on disabled people/people with disabilities
The workshop examines allyship with disabled individuals, addressing ally burnout and anxiety from social stressors. It focuses on identifying these stressors and strategies to reduce burnout risks, rather than personal coping methods.
The BIAS FREE Framework
The BIAS FREE Framework, developed by Mary Anne Burke and Margit Eichler, identifies biases from social hierarchies. This workshop helps participants understand and apply the framework to uncover hidden biases in their work and lives.
