Biography

Seleem has developed a strong passion for the pursuit of knowledge and scientific exploration. Having begun research in Grade 10, he has been involved in several research projects, exploring things from breast cancer, aortic aneurysms, and rare genetic mutations, to wearable technology and genetic engineering. He strives to learn more in the field and combine biomedical concepts with technology through biomedical engineering to find modern solutions to age-old problems. He continues this pursuit through his ongoing research at UCalgary and as an Amgen Scholar conducting biomedical research in Toronto.

He believes that through leadership, collaboration, and dedication, we can come together from all different backgrounds to build a better tomorrow. He loves serving his community through volunteering at the hospital to help patients, volunteering at youth organizations, and through his own non-profit.

His translational research has inspired him to learn more about entrepreneurship as well. He has been involved in several entrepreneurial pursuits and organizations. He currently serves as a fund manager in the UCeed Haskayne Student Fund, a student-led venture capital fund where he directly evaluates and invests in early-stage startups.

Seleem aspires to pursue an MD-PhD to improve human health, help his community and people, and further explore the complex mechanisms of the human body. He hopes to use his engineering skills and entrepreneurial background to then translate that knowledge to real-world solutions.
