Biography

“Let us pick up our books and pens. They are our most powerful weapons” - Malala Yousafzai

As a second generation immigrant, Sarah always felt as if obtaining higher education was not just a personal achievement, but a transformative bridge between her family's past and a future full of boundless possibilities.

With the help of her creativity and innovation, Sarah has devoted much of her time to the service of others. Specifically, she enjoys dedicating her time to women’s rights initiatives which included raising money for the YWCA, a domestic violence shelter, at their annual YWHISPER Gala. With her active involvement as a volunteer at Canadian Blood Services (CBS) and her prior experience as an executive at the CBS Lifesavers Club, she is an advocate for blood and organ donation.

Growing up as a second generation immigrant, Sarah has seen how mental illness and trauma has deeply affected her own family. To honour and try to help those affected by mental illness Sarah also dedicates her time to researching the effects of mental illness stigma in the healthcare setting.

As a certified personal trainer, you may find Sarah in a variety of active settings, including the YMCA, where she also works part-time, when she is not immersed in her various community responsibilities.
