Infrastructure

Our Infrastructure

The Seaman Family MR Centre (SFMRC) is housed in a 800 m2 research facility located between Foothills Medical Centre and the University of Calgary Faculty of Medicine. There are two MR scanners located within the Centre, both of which are dedicated research instruments.

  • 3 T Diagnostic MR Scanner (in commercial partnership with General Electric Healthcare)
  • 3 T Intra-operative MR Scanner (in commercial partnership with IMRIS)

The Hotchkiss Brain Institute (HBI) provides support to the activities of the SFMRC through the NeuroImaging Research Unit (NIRU) for EEG and fMRI experiments, and through the Hopewell Professorship in Brain Imaging for Brain Imaging activities.

Additional Research Infrastructure

Vascular Imaging Laboratory

A 50m2 laboratory devoted to experimental and clinical imaging. Within this facility is minor surgical equipment, anesthetic and monitoring equipment and an x-ray C-arm for guiding non-invasive procedures using vascular catheters.

Image Analysis and Archival Facility

The computing infrastructure in the Seaman Family Centre was initially developed in 2002 and forms the backbone of our image analysis and assessment capabilities. The software cornerstone of this infrastructure is our research PACS (picture archiving and communications system) from Intelerad.
