Dr. Garrett Bullock is a former professional baseball player, practicing physical therapist, and quantitative epidemiologist. Dr. Bullock was a Clarendon Scholar at the University of Oxford prior to joining the faculty at Wake Forest School of Medicine. Dr. Bullock holds an honorary appointment with the United Kingdom Centre for Sport, Exercise, and Osteoarthritis Research Versus Arthritis at the University of Oxford.
In this talk, Dr. Bullock will talk about research demonstrating how the abrupt stop and start of high school athletics during the pandemic is related to an excess of thousands of increased injuries when athletes returned to sport following shelter in place. Two way discussion and education is needed between sports medicine professionals and high school athlete stakeholder groups on creating safe return to sport protocols following abrupt stop and start sport events.
