PhD

Shashank obtained a bachelor’s in chemical engineering at M.S Ramaiah Institute of Technology (M.S.R.I T) in the southern city of Bangalore in India. He developed an interest in the application of polymers over the course of his undergraduate degree and worked on using Reduced Graphene Oxide based nano materials (rGO) for the remediation of Arsenic contaminated water at the Indian Institute of Science (IISc, Bangalore). Plus, he got his masters in polymer science in a bi-national program between Université de Strasbourg and Albert-Ludwigs Universität Freiburg, during which he worked on the Layer-by-Layer (LbL) assembly process for preparing thin film polymer nanocomposites based on cellulose-fibers. Shashank is the recipient of the Alberta Innovates graduate scholarship from 2021-2023. Apart from this, he won the Ursula Herbert Zadmer award from the department twice (2020,2021) and the NOVA Chemicals graduate award (2023).  As well, he presented several talks on “Understanding the morphology evolution in polymer blends during processing”. Currently, he is working on submitting his PhD thesis and transitioning to the polymer industry post-graduation.
