Oluwatobi Elijah Akindele received his Bachelor of Technology degree in Chemistry with Polymer Science from the Federal University of Technology Minna, Nigeria, and obtained his Master of Technology degree in Polymer Technology from Cochin University of Science and Technology India.
During his undergraduate studies, he specialized in polymer science and worked on various projects in the polymer field. His final year project focused on the bio-absorption of lead & cadmium in Petrochemical Effluents using Activated Carbon produced from Almond Shell, and his Master's thesis was industrial-based with CEAT Tyres in India working on Research for Mixing Process Improvement in the CEAT's plant located in Halol, Gujarat.
Due to his zest for research, he worked as a Research Assistant in the Department of Polymer & Textile Technology of Yaba College of Technology Lagos, then proceeded to work as a Research Chemist in the PU Systems house laboratory of Vitapur Nig. Ltd. - this is a partnered project with UNDP, and later to work as an R&D Engineer in the global lab of Hira Industries UAE in the Aerofoam division. He has published journal articles in international peer-reviewed journals, and international/national proceeding papers. His areas of research interest focuses on developing novel materials such as Polyethylene (PE), Elastomers, and Polyurethane (PU), amongst many others, and how these can be used to create new applications, packaging designs, and insulation products, among many others.
He recently joined the Centre for Advanced Polymers and Nanocomposites (CAPNA) in the Department of Chemical and Petroleum Engineering at the University of Calgary under the supervision of Professor Uttandaraman Sundararaj.
