Biography
Sophia Lebessis’ leadership and entrepreneurship as Canada’s first Inuk owner of an Inuit art gallery, Transformation Fine Art, is creating space for masterworks of Inuit and First Nations artists.
Inuit on her mother’s side and Greek on her father’s, Sophia was born into the world of Inuit art. When Sophia was a baby, her father was transferred the ownership of an art cooperative in Arviat, Nunavut. Having moved from the north to Greece, and landing in Calgary in 2002, Sophia has remained consistent in sharing her culture though consulting, speaking, curating and the pursuit of education. She has a BA in Communications and a Masters of Adult Education, and is pursuing curriculum development for art entrepreneurs in the Arctic. Sophia is the first Inuk to speak at TEDx.
