Laurel Watson

Biography

Laurel was born and raised in southern Alberta. After completing a degree in political science and mathematics, and a graduate degree in philosophy, Laurel attended the University of British Columbia to study law. Vancouver is where her first child was born. Married to a Calgarian, Laurel returned to Alberta to practice as a civil litigator, primarily doing insurance defense work, and some insolvency and family law. After the birth of her second and third children, Laurel quit private practice and tried to stay home with her children but ended up taking art history and history courses part time at the University of Calgary. In 1997, Laurel returned full time to the practice of law as a legal counsel to the Court of Appeal of Alberta. After almost 19 years, Laurel continues to enjoy working at the Court.
