Nominate a student

Information for those wishing to nominate a student, or provide secondary letters of support to a nominee

Information for nominators

To nominate a student, you will need to submit a nomination package. This includes:

  1. Obtaining the consent of the student whose name you are putting forward
  2. Completing a rationale for the nomination
  3. Submitting a primary letter of support, and 
  4. Coordinating the submission of two more secondary supporting letters. Letters of support (primary and secondary) should not exceed two pages in length.

The nomination package is submitted through the online nomination form, which includes a place to upload the primary letter of support. The letter writers of the secondary supporting letters can directly submit their letters online using the same online nomination form.

Nominations close on March 1, 2025.

Nominator criteria

To qualify as a nominator, you must:

  • Be a current faculty member, staff member or student at the University of Calgary (please note: a student cannot serve as their own nominator)
  • Not be a family member or close friend of the nominee
  • Use an @ucalgary.ca email address to submit your nomination

Note: Each nominee should have only one nominator.

In addition to the information required in the student nomination, two secondary letters of support must be provided (coordinated by the nominator).

Important dates

Nominations open January 1 and close March 1, annually. These dates apply to all graduating students, regardless of their convocation date (spring or fall convocation). 

For example, nominees must have applied by the March deadline to be considered, even if they are planning to graduate in November.

The nomination forms (for both nominators and nominees) will be available on the President's Award website at the beginning of each calendar year.

Nomination deadline
Completed nominator and nominee forms, as well as supporting letters, are due for any students being considered for the President's Award, regardless of June (spring) or November (fall) convocation. All nominations are adjudicated at the same time for each award year.

Successful nominees will be notified in May
