Strengths-Based Campus

What are you good at? Are you a relationship builder, do you like to make things happen, or do you thrive on competition? The UCalgaryStrong Strengths Program is your answer to these questions, and an opportunity to explore which qualities make you who you are. To get started, follow the instructions in the section below.

How Does it Work?

Strengths begins with a 30-40 minute inventory which will ask you about your preferences and tendencies in a variety of situations. Next, you are provided with your Top 5 Themes of Talent – five qualities that explain what makes you unique.

From there, you can engage in UCalgary leadership programming, academic and career advising and campus activities that leverage the power of your strengths and talents to inspire personal growth and help you contribute to a strong community.

Why are Strengths important?

As UCalgaryStrong leaders, we are committed to creating a campus environment that supports the development of students’ individual and collective strengths and well-being.

Through the Strengths UCalgaryStrong program, students are welcomed onto our campus knowing their unique strengths and attributes will be recognized, celebrated, and fostered throughout their university experience.

How do I get started?

As of Monday, March 1, 2021, we’re changing the way you access your CliftonStrengths (CS) results, and for new users, the way you take your CS Assessment. Existing results can be accessed by signing in using the same email and password combination hereFor new users, please request your CS code here.

Next Steps that you can take with CliftonStrengths

For further exploration, your CS account has a full e-version of the book CliftonStrengths for Students, the activity guide How Students Can Use Their CliftonStrengths to Succeed, and a number of other resources. Gallup also has a series of videos on each talent theme on their YouTube Channel. Looking through a Teamwork lens, this page has some great information on The Four Domains.

Step 1

Share your talent themes with family members, friends, professors and co-workers and ask them how they see you using your Strengths. We each know ourselves best, but the people in our lives often see ways we use our Strengths that we don’t recognize.

Step 2

Reflect on how you can best utilize your Strengths to approach any academic, professional, or personal challenges you may be facing.

Step 3

In group projects, have each team member take their CS Inventory and then discuss how each member’s Strengths can contribute to the success of your work together. They can request their Strengths code here.

Step 4

Book an appointment with a Career Advisor at Career Services and learn how to articulate your Strengths in your cover letter, resume and interview answers.
