UC-HAL GitHub

We have launched a new data dissemination, visualization, and software portal for UC-HAL codes, scripts and projects. UC-HAL is a dedicated to the free and open-source access to the results and software derived from the extensive modeling work we conduct on the environment. Recent projects and codes are now posted, and we are working towards populating legacy results. Please let us know if there are specific results and data you are looking for!

These are some of the National and International projects our team members are contributing to.

ciroh

In collaboration with UCalgary and USask CIROH-Canada partners Drs Martyn Clark and Alain Pietrioniro, our contributions are towards RT1 - expansion and improvement of water resources prediction. Projects include the model agnostic framework (MAF) and multimodel mosaics, as well as enhanced large scale parameterization of models.

Under the National Adaptation Strategy, the Government of Canada is investing $164.2M in its Flood Hazard Identification and Mapping Program (FHIMP) to help Canadians better plan and prepare for future floods, over the next five years. While, NRCan and various environmental consultants across Canada are handling the mapping aspects, a significant investment was also made in academic reseach to improve the tools available to practitioners to (re)develop flood map and hazard calculations under climate change. UCalgary is leading this research with a consortium of Canadian universities.

Under the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) Vision 2030 umbrella, Dr. Stadnyk is involved in leading or co-leading three Coordinated Research Projects with the International Atomic Energy Agency, Hydrology section.  Her work with integrating stable water isotopes into hydrologic models as tracers of the water balance is being used to look at global precipitation and climate change (SDG 13), global water balance and snow (SDG 6,7) and in climate change extremes and impacts on urban environments (SDG 11).

T. Holmes

Our lab is responsible for the creation and dissemination of the isoWATFLOOD model and code. This is an isotopically-enabled hydrologic model that runs in conjunction with the CHARM (canadian Hydrologic and Routing model) code from WATFLOOD (www.watflood.ca), created and owned by Dr. Nick Kouwen at the University of Waterloo.

Code was created by Dr. T. Stadnyk, and is maintained and developed by T. Holmes. The code is freeware, available for download from GitHub:

WATFLOOD/CHARM

WATFLOOD is Open Source Software under GNU LGPL License maintained by developer Nick Kouwen and the University of Calgary UC-HAL lab. WATFLOOD is a series of programs that do distributed hydrological modelling, with CHARM- Canadian Hydrological and Routing Model - being the rainfall-runoff and routing portion of the model.
