Campus Food Hub

Your Campus Food Hub at the University of Calgary is a collaborative effort between Student Experience and Support, Ancillary Services, the Students’ Union and the Graduate Students Association. The Campus Food Hub strives to be an inclusive and student-centred space for individuals seeking out food and education to nourish their bodies and minds.

About

Food insecurity is a critical concern on campus. A recent survey by Meal Exchange (2021) indicated that 47.4% of UCalgary student respondents experienced some level of food insecurity in the 2020–2021 school year. Our partners have a common interest in increasing access to healthy, fresh and culturally appropriate food on campus by establishing the Campus Food Hub.

This space is designed for students to seek out food and education to nourish their bodies and minds and provide relief from the challenges of food insecurity.

Goals

Increase food access

Increase availability of affordable, nutritious foods on campus. Through meal programs, food rescue efforts and a subsidized marketplace, students can access affordable groceries, prepared foods and on-campus meals.

Improve food literacy

Provide opportunities for education in food. Support participants in building a positive relationship with their food, and empower them to make healthy, sustainable choices.

Collaborate across campus

Create synergy among food security initiatives across campus. Collaborate with departments, student groups and community partners to enhance offerings and amplify our collective efforts.

Volunteers

The Campus Food Hub relies on student volunteers to maintain open hours, cook meals, and run programs. We have a variety of roles you can become involved with depending on your interest. All volunteers must be registered on Better Impact and are required to complete University of Calgary trainings, as well as additional food handling training, provided online or on-site through Alberta Health Services.
