Biography

“My name is Gavin John, and I am a 34-year-old Metis freelance journalist from Calgary. My passion for storytelling and the Middle East has led me to pursue a career in journalism in the region. I’ve covered the war against the Islamic State in Iraq for several media organizations over the years and the highlight of my career so far has been covering the 2016 Battle for Mosul. I’ve returned to the University of Calgary to obtain an International Relations degree to deepen the understanding of the region I have grown to love so much.”
