Omar Hassanin headshot

Omar is currently pursuing his PhD at the University of Calgary under the supervision of Dr. Sayeh Bayat and Dr. Carolyn Emery, where his research focuses on how concussions affect the driving behaviours of youths. He integrates advanced tools such as artificial intelligence and driving monitoring systems to examine how driving performance evolves throughout recovery. His work is driven by a strong commitment to improving health and safety outcomes for young drivers.

He holds two Master’s degrees in Transportation Engineering. His first MSc, completed at Tongji University in 2022, centered on improving autonomous vehicle safety and performance, and resulted in a Chinese patent for his contributions. His second MSc, completed at the University of Calgary in 2024, investigated enhancements to the trip-based macroscopic fundamental diagram (MFD) and examined the macroscopic impacts of integrating connected and automated vehicles (CAVs).

Omar also brings industry experience from his role as a Data Analyst at SETS, where he worked with real-time traffic data, developed interactive mapping tools, and built analytical systems to support transportation planning and operations.
