Authentic Allies - Fostering Male Allyship within STEM
1:30 - 2:30 PM
ENG 207
WISE Planet (NSERC Chair for Women in Science and Engineering Prairie Region); Schulich School of Engineering
Are there as many male allies in STEM as we think there are? If so, are men genuinely embracing being allies to address systemic issues within STEM? The reality is that male allies are wanted and needed, but allyship is often poorly understood and can be misrepresented. This session will kick-off with an overview of the context, findings and recommendations from the male allyship study before moving into interactive exploration, sharing and hands-on practice for participants with a toolkit for becoming or recruiting authentic male allies.

After the screening, Dr. Jules Gill-Peterson, author, Professor of History at Johns Hopkins University, and participant in the film will give a short virtual talk about how educators are using the film to explore trans history with students, followed by a discussion for attendees.
