Information on Eligibility

The University of Calgary offers both competitive and nominated awards to students continuing their studies in programs leading to a Bachelor’s degree.

Eligibility

  • For the majority of awards you must have completed the most recent fall and winter terms at the University of Calgary as a full-time student registered in at least 24 units in an undergraduate degree program, some awards allow for 18 units. Students with a verifiable permanent disability qualify for awards after completing at least 18 units in the most recent fall and winter terms.
  • The cumulative grade point average (GPA) used for awards purposes is based on all courses you most recently completed in the fall and winter terms as a full-time student. Scholarships require a minimum GPA of 3.20. For bursaries, the minimum GPA required is 2.60.
  • Competitive awards require you to complete the on-line awards application; selection is based on academic merit however other criteria such as financial need (for bursaries), and/or extracurricular activities, leadership, volunteerism, etc. may be required depending on the award terms of reference
  • Nominated awards are based primarily on academic merit and most often are designated to a specific faculty or program.  An awards application is not required and candidates are recommended by the faculty or department.
  • Students entering an after-degree program in the fall term are not eligible for awards for Continuing Students however after completing the first year of your after-degree program, you qualify for these awards.
  • Supplemental exams, deferred exams and special deferred exams or term work may affect your eligibility for awards.
